Bookings are now open for the first instalment of our new collage workshop program!

Join us at Lonely Coat Books & Art Gymea 1pm on Saturday 17 June for a 3-hour session led by local collage artist and Lonely Coat owner, Dr Shivaun Weybury. This workshop is for adults who are seeking community, great company and creative guidance.

No prior experience is necessary! This will be an extremely supportive, non-judgemental environment. Our emphasis will be on experimentation and play, as we use guided exercises to open up image-making possibilities.

All materials and afternoon tea will be provided. Cost is $75 per person, and class size will be limited to 12. Please bring a bag, folder or folio to transport your finished work/s at the end of the day.

About your facilitator:

Shivaun Weybury is a local artist and is owner/curator of Lonely Coat Books & Art. She is originally from Wollongong, but now lives in the Sutherland Shire. Her work can be described as fractious and tongue-in-cheek, but also very deliberate and careful in its composition and use of colour. Shivaun has an academic background, having taught art history & theory at UNSW for many years, and was an Academic Learning Adviser. She is passionate about education and the powerful role that art can play within it.

Shivaun uses a range of materials in her works, which often incorporate collage, text, and images stolen from great white ‘masters’. Her work is concerned with the artifice and insincerity that underpins so many of the norms that define dominant white Australian culture. She is thoroughly influenced by the punk/alternative cultures of the 1980s & 90s, by Surrealist collage, by feminist performance art, and by her amazing, neuro-diverse 8 year-old daughter.

Please note:
