Kim Baldwin – Shroud #2
Description
Kim Baldwin is a Sutherland Shire-based artist who uses textiles and found objects to make beautiful, tactile works of art. Kim’s work is usually fairly subdued in its use of colour – she favours earthy, neutral or lighter hues – but the subtlety of her pieces is underscored by a depth and intricacy borne out of her use and juxtaposition of different materials.
In this particular piece, Kim has threaded scores of rusty nails through the fabric of an antique, embroidered cloth, giving it the apearance of an icon or relic – much like the shroud or veil of Veronica that is said to bear the imprint of Christ’s face. The nails have been placed in a cross-like formation, with two wing-like forms on either side.
This work measures 73 x 53cm framed. It sits in a glass-fronted white timber frame, and due to its size the buyer will need to collect it (contactless) from our shopfront in Gymea.
