Description
The artworks of Swiss-born painter Theo Gerber (1928 – 1997) transport us to fantastic and complex worlds bursting with a seemingly endless profusion of detail and a diverse array of colours, shapes and motifs.
Gerber — a rebel who refused to be reigned in by the art system or a painterly style — has remained largely unknown in Switzerland until quite recently. His arresting paintings tell of the artist’s ideals, visions and dreams, and reflect his subjective imaginings of a free and peaceful world. His insistence on artistic freedom makes it impossible to assign his work to a specific movement or genre of 20th century art. This book, published to coincide with a retrospective exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland, is an overdue tribute to this wonderfully wayward artist and finally provides the general public with a chance to discover and appreciate his oeuvre. Text in English and German.
